Setting Off

Postby Terl Obar » Fri Jul 18, 2008 7:54 am

When you enter the A-3 berth observation gallery, Lee is already there talking to another dralisite dressed in a StarFleet uniform wearing the rank insignia of a Fleet Lieutenant. Out the gallery window you see a huge hull size 20 cargo freighter with the Obar Enterprises logo emblazoned across the side. The ship has what looks to be about a 40m diameter, 80m long "head" tapered at both ends. A short 20m neck and then the massive cargo bays, 100m in diameter and nearly half a kilometer long. Eight class C Atomic engines poke out the back end. You see three sets of massive cargo bays doors that are in the process of closing up at you watch. You also see an access umbilical connected up from the deck to the neck of the ship. Nestled under the bow of the freighter, dwarfed by it's immensity, are a pair of Assault Scouts.

Sebastian lets out a low whistle as he peers out the viewport. "Nice dreadnaught freighter, I had to escort one that size back in Theseus once. The 'Colossus', operating out of Zebulon. Those things can move an entire operation if need be."

Leo enters carrying a pack with all his things. He looks around and takes in the huge ship in front of him. "The Morning Glory I presume?"

Upon seeing the hull 20 "freighter" in the A-=3 berth, Maria can only stand there and shudder.

She knows of two other civ ships that size...the first, the Pan-Galactic, ended up lost in the Void, and eventually in pieces scattered across half the vogging Frontier, when it did pop back out into normspace.

The other was the Pride of Vor'lik. Vist'Lat's flagship....

She prefers not to think about that, instead directing her attention to the pair of Stiletto-class assault scouts nestled close to the behemoth like puppies suckling their mother...she'd been training to fly an assault scout, when its commander, Lieutenant RIK T'sak, had veered off its assigned course and ordered the assault rocket gunner to salvo all the K'klemor'sordinance into the flank of the unshielding and unsuspecting Pride.

She hears the others gawking and gaping at the Morning Glory and remarks,"so it's a big ship. So what? When do we get on board and get this voggin' show on the road?"

B'Looone walks into the observation deck carrying what little gear he has and, like the others, he can not help but be impressed by the shear size of the vehicle he sees.

"I'm glad I'm not the Engineer on that ship", he quips. "He's gotta have at least twenty people working for him and some of them will have assistants. Not to mention a few apprentices and interns. That's WAY too much work! I'm glad we're getting something small that I can handle more or less on my own."

Seeing you've all arrived (assuming the last two have shown up as well), Lee and the other Dralisite come over to the rest of you by the observation window moving carefully in the low (0.1g) gravity of the observation deck. You notice that the two each have a pseudopod intertwined. "She's a beauty isn't she." he says looking out the window at the Morning Glory. "She's big, armed, and fast for her size. The two assault scouts you see nestled in under the bow are the TSSS Excalibur on the right and the CSS Courage on the left, the only two purely military vessels in our fleet. They will be flying escort with us on this run. We might even be able to get the two of you," pointing to Sebastian and Maria, "some stick time on the way out."

"This is my spouse, Reesta Lar. She is also a part owner of Obar Enterprises and as you can see from her outfit an officer in SpaceFleet. (Her rank insignia indicate that she is a Fleet Lieutenant.) Reesta commands the UPFS Rapier, an assault scout assigned to Task Force Cassidine. It seems we'll be getting some additional escort for the first half of the jump. The Rapier, along with a frigate, the UPFS Skimmer, will be accompanying us out to the jump point. We're carrying some cargo for the UPF and I guess they want to make sure we don't have any problems."

"Lee said they'd hired a team to do the odd jobs that keep coming up and I thought I'd take the chance to meet y'all before you shipped out." Reesta says in a vibrant alto voice. "If you're ever here in Cassidine and need a contact, feel free to look me up. If I'm not out on patrol, I'll do what I can. I'd better head on over to the Rapier and make sure my pilot and engineers have everything ready to go. Good luck." With that she heads out toward the bay that where the Rapier is currently berthed.

Lee watches Reesta leave and then turns to the rest of you. "Okay, first things first, let's get you guys on board and keyed into the ship's computer so the security systems can recognize you. Then we'll get you strapped in while we get under way. Once we get under full acceleration and can move around normally, I'll show you around the ship, you can pick your rooms and stow your gear. Follow me." He leads off through the doorway towards the ship access tunnel.

After a brief walk you arrive at a large elevator that easily holds all of you and your gear. You ride the elevator up through the access tunnel. When you get out you see the ship's airlock open about three meters above you and notice that the gravity has dropped even more to about 0.05g. The door to the airlock is about 3 m in diameter and you notice the room beyond it is large as well it looks to be about a 4m cube with another door like the one you are looking through straight overhead about seven meters away. You figure that the airlock could hold a dozen fully suited beings easily. There are several ladders descending from the airlock to the "floor" of the room you are standing in.

Along the side of the wall is an array of cubbyholes containing several dozen pairs of velcro shoe covers. Lee heads over and grabs a pair. Moving away from the cubbies, he starts putting the shoes on his feet. "Grab yourselves a pair and strap them on. They will make moving around a bit easier until we get full acceleration on. Once they're on come on up, use the ladder's or your legs." With that he crouches and jumps up into the airlock angling toward the side opposite the elevator door. Once there he secures his feet to that wall which you realize is the floor of the airlock when underway.

OOC: Okay, I'll stop there for a moment for questions, comments or stupid remarks. Feel free to role play anywhere along the narration and ask questions if you want. Let me know how you intend to enter the airlock, jumping like Lee or just climbing on the ladders. Jumping will require a RS check to not mess up.

Leo tagged along and at a good point he asks, "I don't suppose you'll be needing my services just yet." Astrogation was a funny thing. Once you reached a basic level it didn't really matter how good you where at it for routine operations. Truly skillfully astrogators only really showed their skills, when they had to push the protocols and jump before the math. Leo was confident that at least for basic ops he could plot for the Morning Glory just as easy as he will for the Dart.

However Leo was smart enough to know that just because he wouldn't be needed on the Morning Glory, it wouldn't mean he wouldn't be busy. He would want to get all the info he could on the Dart's computer system, so he could learn it inside and out before he got there.

Leo grabs the velcro shoes and waits to climb the ladder.

Seeing Maria eyeing the sleek pair of scouts nestled under the bow, Sebastian leans over and says "Hear that, we might be able to get in a little game of cat and mouse."

Sebastian affixes the velcro shoes and will take the ladder. No need for foolish antics, foolish meaning if he manages to bumble said antics. After all, ol' Chatterbox is cumbersome enough to blow such a maneuver, even in low-G.

"That should be interesting," Maria says to the Minotaur, as the prospect of her getting some time behind the wheel of one of the docked assault scouts is mentioned.

After the Spacefleet blob finishes its spiel, the blob they're working for leads them out to the ship's open airlock, Maria slipping on a pair of velcro shoes to climb on board...even in low grav, there's so many ways trying to jump on board can go incredibly wrong, and she's just not in the mood to chance embarassment.

Realizing that jump up is probably trickier than it looks, especially fully loaded as you are, everyone climbs up the ladders. Once inside, Lee taps the intercom and contacts the bridge. "Lee here with the new team. Are we waiting for anyone else or should we close up shop?" A moment later, a distinctly Yazarian voice replies. "You're the last ones, Lee. Go ahead and lock us up." With that, Lee taps a few buttons on the airlock control panel and the large door swings shut and you hear the locking mechanism engage. Once sealed the inner door unlocks and swings open.

Lee leads you through into the suiting room (See the deck plans for the airlock deck). As you pass through the inner door your mind makes the transition from the outside orientation to the orientation of the ship and you are now walking on the floor instead of the wall. You notice that this room is quite large, roughly 12m x 10m with a large 4m x 3m column in the middle. Along the walls are 20-30 suit lockers, many are closed but a dozen of them are open and empty. You notice that they all have hand scanners on their doors.

On the column across from the airlock door is a computer terminal, which Lee heads over to. "Okay, pick an empty locker and stow your gear for now. You can come back and get it once we are underway and you've picked out your stateroom for the trip. If you're worried about security, just place your hand on the panel on the inside of the door before you close it and it will open only for you once closed. To open it, just place your hand on the outside panel. If you don't anyone can open it. Once you get your gear stowed, come over to this terminal and we'll get your biometrics into the ship's computer." After you stow your gear, Lee has each of you place both hands (or two psudopods) on a scanner plate, look into a retinal scanner and state your name as well as read a short card to get a voice print. "Okay, that should get you started. The computer will build up the voice print data as we go and we can transfer all the data to the Dart once we get to Truane's. Let's go get you strapped in and then we'll get underway. Follow me."

Lee leads you around the central column in the room and you see that it houses the elevator shaft. Designed to hold four comfortably, you take the ride up in two groups to the Common Deck. As you exit the elevator, you are standing in a two meter wide hall way that extends to your left and right. Directly in front of you is a large, roughly 12m x 12m room filled with chairs and tables and a huge window filling the entire far wall that right now looks out into the belly of the station. On the right hand wall of the room you see a counter extending out through a large gap in the wall that looks into what appears to be a kitchen. Down the passage to the right you see a pressure door and then the passage makes a turn to the right again. To the left you see a standard door and the passage splits both left and right. There are also doors directly past the elevator on the left and right passages.

"Okay, quick tour of this level. This is the cafeteria/lounge," Lee says, pointing to the room directly ahead of you. "We have a first class chef on board that can cook just about anything for any of the major races in the Frontier. No generic space rations on the Morning Glory. Enjoy it while you can. These doors just by the elevators go to personal entertainment rooms, video screens, computer access, etc. Designed to hold one or two people. To the right, that pressure door leads to a small botanical gardens. The chef grows some fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs and spices in there but it is mainly just a place to relax. The pressure doors are there because we don't ever depressurize that part of the ship, not good for the plants. Around the corner the hall continues down to a large and small conference room and a door to the theater.

"We'll go this way," he says heading down the left passage and stopping where it splits. "Okay, to the right, that pressure door leads to the lifeboat on this level. Standard style lifeboat, can seat up to 20 in a pinch. This door," indicating the one in front of you," is the gym." He touches a panel so it opens and you can see inside. The room has a large exercise mat in the middle and a large variety of exercise equipment (treadmills, exercise bikes, weights, etc, both biped and Vruskian models) around the edge. Turning to the left Lee leads you down the rest of the hall where there is a door straight ahead and one on the left. "The door straight ahead goes into the locker/changing room. There are four private changing rooms/heads, a bank of lockers and a room that can operate as a sauna or steamroom, very popular with myself and the other Drals on the crew," he says with a grin. "We go through this one," he says as he leads through the door on the left.

You enter in to a large 13 by 8 meter room containing five rows of recliners. Along the far wall is a large 5m tall by 8m wide video display. "This is the theater room it provides full access to all the ships entertainment offerings. The seats double as the emergency acceleration couches for the passengers, you in this case, as there aren't any others on this trip. Unless assigned otherwise, this will be your initial battle stations location if needed. So, pick a seat and strap in, once underway we'll show you around the rest of the ship and get settled in. Any last minute questions before we head out?"

Leo dropped his stuff in the locker and then secured it with a hand print. He didn't really have anything valuable nor did he think anyone would take anything it was just 'his' stuff.

Touring through the ship it seemed more like being on a station. He knew he should enjoy it while he could, because the Dart was likely to be anything but spacious.

Taking a seat in the theater Leo prepared himself. He heard the pilots comments and smiled, some people didn't like to be alone with their own thoughts... Still they were in a theater. Turning to Maria he says, "Pick something good."

"There isn't a 'sim room' as you call it." Lee replies. "This is a cargo freighter not a military vessel. That said, once we get underway we can set up the auxiliary bridge as a type of simulator and you can while away your hours there if you want. For now, sit down and strap in. You'll only be in here for about 20 minutes or so anyway until we clear the station and get the main engines going. I think you can deal with that. Besides, it could be worse, you could have to be strapped down in your bunk or a crappy chair with little support. I've had to deal with both in the past. Despite appearances those are first class acceleration chairs, capable of withstanding up to 20 gees, way more than this ship is capable of. Okay, got to run. Be back in a few minutes."

With that Lee heads out the door. A minute or so later, you feel the ship detach from the station and what little gravity there was vanishes to be replaced by small nudges in various directions as the ship maneuvers to the center line of the station and exit the docking bay.
