It ought to be a cinch to put that together. Other then that, I like the idea of teaching the combat 'bots how to para-glide. We probably won't use it on this mission, but it is a handy skill to have." Malcom thinks for a moment, then gets a mischievous grin. "Ooo! How about a vocal sub-routine so they always call Maria 'Darlin' ' or 'Sweetie', and Sebastian 'Benji' or 'Spot' or 'Fido' or some other common pet name. That would be hilarious!"

"Hows about a booby-trapped access panel? With the alarm, which is still a good idea, they can still reprogram the bot and we will have to worry about the bots and the reprogramers. But if we booby trap the bot, everyone blows up and no worries, hey?"
At Malcoms final statement about the response for the pilots, Gren smiles.

OOC: Sorry about the delay. Kids just started back up to school and sports it has been fairly hectic around here getting all the schedules worked out. And it took a little longer to get the maps made than I expected.

BIC:
The robot specs in the equipment section are the specs you find in the ships computer. That is the base configuration you have to work with. Let me know exactly what mods you want to make. As for their performance in combat, they can basically do anything a character can. Transit from Pale to New Pale will take about a day so you'll have plenty of time to make the mods you want.

For additional equipment, post specific requests and then you can get them approved/disapproved. So far the only specifics I've seen are a grenade launcher and some tangler grenades.

"Here are some aerial images and schematics of the base." Lee takes over. "At least how it used to be, we have no information at the moment about changes. This first image (500 kB) is an aerial shot of the surrounding terrain. The main base sits at the mouth of a mountain canyon. Up the canyon, about 1-2 km away are four mining shafts where ore is being extracted. Mining is completely robotic. The staff does inspections, testing, etc at the mine shafts occasionally but primarily spend their time at the main base.

"The main base, shown here in this schematic (380 kB) consists of four main buildings and a landing pad surrounded by a large security fence broken regularly by guard towers. The grid on this map is 5 meters per square. The fence is 5m high, electrified. Each section of the fence between guard towers is on separate circuit So a short in one section doesn't take down the entire fence. The guard towers are 10m tall and manned by security robots identical to the four you will have in the hold of the Dart. The corner towers and towers in the middle of the long side of the base are armed with heavy lasers powered off the base's main reactor. The other towers have machine gun mounts.

"Building A is the main living quarters, offices, cafeteria, gym, etc. Building B is basically a big warehouse where incoming supplies and outgoing ore are stored. It contains several lifts for loading/unloading the cargo shuttles as well as extra garage space. Building C is the bases power plant. It is a size one self contained nuclear reactor very similar to a Class A atomic engine. The building houses the reactor, turbine equipment for converting the power into electricity and a monitoring station. Building D contains the main garage, a machine shop, and a robotics storage and repair shop the the lower section. The top is the main ore processing plant for the base. (OOC: Detailed plans for the buildings coming shortly. I have them, I just need to clean them up a bit. Hopefully I'll get them posted tonight) The landing pad (E) is about 85 meters square and takes up the western half of the compound. You could park half a dozen Assault Scouts on it if you were careful setting them down.

"The base had a staff of eight. Three roboticists and three technicians to keep the machinery running, a geologist/medic to keep the crew running and monitor the ore quality and look for new sites and a security specialist to keep everyone safe. In addition to the staff, there was a large compliment of robots. There were 24 OEC-01 security robots, a dozen maintenance robots, and two dozen heavy duty mining robots. The base was also equipped with a pair of explorers, a jetcopter and an aircar."

"This third image (645 kB) is a detail of the interior of the buildings, " Lee continues. "The grid here is one meter per square. Most of the areas are probably self explainatory but some could use a little more info.

"The guard towers are accessed via ladders on the interior of the fence. the main gates, not shown on the detail, are 8m wide on the north and south sides.
"Area 4 is just building B relabeled. A large warehouse style building to store cargo although the doors and walls are reinforced and have level 4 locks on them.
"Area 5 is the garage, 6 is the machine shop, 7 is the robotics maintenance shop and area 8 is the mineral refinery. That is a just a huge area of ore crushers, smelters and forms. It is usually very hot and stuff in there.
"Area 9 is the nuclear reactor and areas 10 and 11 are redundant turbine and cooling systems to provide power to the base. Area 12 is the control room for the reactor.
"The main building has a medbay similar to the one here on the Morning Glory except it's a little roomier. Above that on the map [areas 18, 19 & 20] is the cafeteria/conference room and kitchen/pantry. Above that are the office area and main computer. Each seat has computer access
"There is a large gym [area 23] with an exercise mat, workout equipment and a ball court along with a pool [area 24], sauna/steamroom [25] and locker/changing room [26].
"Finally there are individual rooms for the eight crew and two storage lockers for supplies."

"Any other questions about the base?"

Now is your chance to ask questions or request specific supplies.

"I think our first priority is to determine if the bots in the towers have been reconfigured." Gren states as he studies the maps and photo. "Lee, is it possible to get a rocket launcher or a recoiless rifle? just incase we need to take out a tower or two. I think our first objective after gaining access to the compound, should be to take the office with the main computer." Gren pauses then adress lee again, "Does the main computer have a security system, remote cameras, motion sensors and such that we can use to monitor the main camp and the mines?"

"We should be able to get you any ordinance you want, just let us know which you would prefer. Yes, there are cameras and monitors all over the compound that can be accessed from the main computer and office area. At least there were. I assume some were destroyed during the attack on the camp."

"I myself would prefer a recoiless rifle with about 30 rounds, just incase." Gren then turns to B'Loone "Do you have some way to get us through the electic fence?"

"Recoiless, nice rock tosser. If we have to land outside the fence, I have a kilo of D-19 in my kit that can be put to good use," Malcom says to Gren. He takes a moment to digest all of the information regarding the site's original defenses. "Ok, the base has the sec-bots but none of the OE com-bots, so that means standard visual and audio sensors, no IR. Lee or Leo, we'll need a daylight schedule for this rock. If we're lucky, we can arrive while it's still dark. We'll need everyone equipped with IR goggles to give us an advantage in case the 'bots are compromised. Of course, this is a rescue, so if it's not dark, we won't be able to wait. B'Looone and Leo, we might be able to use the Dart's 'bot control and one of our com-bots to access the base's computer 'bot control program and relay commands. At the very least, we should be able to get a status on the base's 'droids - if the computer is still up and Leo can crack into it."

"Ok, that covers original OE gear on site. Now, what's the intention of the attack? Was it a raid only, or are they attempting a take over? If it's the second, we have to anticipate additional bad guys, robotic and fleshies. Maybe a flyer or two. Gren, this might mean a two pronged attack, air and ground, don't you think? I might have to stay in the Dart since I've got to be better then our com-bots with the pod laser. Better pack a para-wing for at least me and whichever pilot or pilots stay in the Dart. Leo, can we use the astrogation gear for a high level fly-by and look-see? It would be nice to have eyeballs on our target without getting in shooting range."

Leo looks over the details provided and nods, there was a lot of good info here. To Lee he said, "We are going to need all the access codes for every robot, computer and security systems. Assuming the attacker hasn't completely reprogrammed everything yet, the codes would keep us from having to destroy something that is really on our side." Less expensive that way, "Of course the attack might have laid waste to everything already then its a moot point."

Assuming Sebastian can listen in to the conversation (via chronocom, intercom, etc), he'll respond to Gren's remark.

Terl answers your questions. "Okay, you can find the vital statistics on the base's staff in the ships computer. This information will also be uploaded into the Dart's computer.

"As for access codes, all the electronic ones have been loaded into the Dart's computer also, as well as the passwords for accessing the main computer if it hasn't been changed. In addition all of the OE-whatever model robots have a built in hardware security override that will completely shut off the 'bot until the access panel is removed and the bot is powered back up. It's a vocal pass code so you have to at least be within shouting distance of the bot for it to work. In addition the 'bot has to be able to see you and you have to be wearing an OE logo on your clothing that is visible. We'll get you a supply of those and you can use them or not as you desire. It's a little restrictive but since it is cooked into the 'bots hardware, we didn't want it to be something an enemy could capture and then broadcast. Anyway, the phrase is 'Kurabanda dig dung bombs.'

"As to the purpose of the attack, it's anyone's guess. I'd wager they are going for a wildcatting operation and hope to be able to hold the base. It's a fairly lucrative site and is not going to playing out any time soon as far as we can tell. If they hold it, it could provide a nice cash flow for their operation. Current output is about 1 standard cargo unit every two weeks. That's a 400,000 credit a month income before expenses. That would be a definite boost to any operations income. I wouldn't be surprised if the base is relatively intact and occupied when you get there.

"Equipment-wise the only specific things I've heard requested so far are: a Recoiless rifle with 30 rounds for Gren, a kilo of TD-19 for Malcom, IR goggles for everyone, and a pair of parawings in the Dart. That's all easy enough. They will be on the Dart when you get on-board. Anything else you think you need?"

This will be the last day to request equipment. My next post will have you all in route from Pale to New Pale on the Dart.

Overhearing the bit about a rooftop swivel mount in the explorer, Sebastian chimes in for the equipment requests.

"I concur on the rooftop swivel mount on the explorer. An extra couple belts of ammo would be nice too. I could probably use a spare powerclip or two as well for my sonic sword. And put me down for a set of IR goggles as well."

After a brief pause he concludes, "If anyone is skilled at tossing grenades or firing them out of a rifle, now's the time to requisition a few."

B'Looone tears himself away from the robot spec's long enough to add his equipment requests to the others.

"Grenades are always useful things. How about one box each of stun, smoke and tangler grenades. I'd like a kg of explosives, too please... with detonators, of course."

"I've been thinking about the modifications to the 'bots that have been mentioned. It's easy enough to add an alarm to their maintenance hatches, so I'll do that. As far as booby trapping them goes, I don't want to blow them up just because someone we don't like tried to mess with them. I'd like to add an electrostunner to each 'bot as the booby trap." Throwing a smirk at Gren he adds, "that way we get to question our saboteur."

"So, put me down for three boxes of grenades (yes, I'll share), some explosive and one electrostunner for each 'bot"

That should be more than enough to get me into trouble.

"Would it be possible," Maria asks the fleabag in charge,"to use your UPF connections to get us a few of those aerial survey bots the Planetary Survey Administration uses for its expeditions? From what I've read about them, they would come in handy for armed recon and aerial support."

Hearing about the codes inbuilt to the robot he asks, "I don't suppose you did the same thing with the computer system? A code that causes it to restore to some known good state wiping out any changes?"
