Battle of Fromeltar

Postby Terl Obar » Thu Jan 15, 2009 4:16 pm

This thread will be for playing out the battle at Fromeltar on day 4.

Here is a link to a blank tactical map with numbered hexes.

The UPF should select the location of the planet, the hex the station will start in and the direction of the orbit around the planet (CW or CCW). They also have one Frigate and 3 Assault Scouts from the Tereldrom militia to place. They may be placed anywhere on the map and moving at any speed and any direction the UPF team desires. Remember, after you have placed your ships and station, the Sathar may declare which side of the map (left or right) they will enter from.

After that the Sathar can place their ships. They have four Light Cruisers and seven Destroyers in this battle.

The planet Groth will be placed at hex 3016, with its station rotating CCW.

The planet Terledrom will be placed at hex 2014, with its station rotating CW.

The four militia ships will sally forth to their deaths from hex 3216, speed 8.

You only get to place one of the planets. The other one is many, many map lengths away (for scale, the Earth is slightly bigger than one hex and the moon would be 38 hexes away).

Ignore the Terledrom placement then.

Groth and its station and the militia in the hexes stated above.

The Sathar Fleet hovers just off the edge of the map as final battle plans are drawn... A Sathar Captain Triune standing on the Flag Bridge ominously close and behind the Admiral calls out: "Operations officer, what is the current heading of those Minion vessels?"

Yes we need a facing for the militia ships since they have a speed. We need to know where they are headed.

Okay, here is the Militia and station initial positions. Since no hex was stated for the station, I placed it between the planet and the ships. If the UPF want to move it they can.

The Sathar may now place their ships and give starting speeds and directions. Remember the all have to start on the same side and must be in colums 1-3 or 53-55.

Militia charges ahead, NW, towards the Sathar fleet, speed 12, evading the whole time.

Frigate will fire one torp, one rocket battery salvo, LC and LB at the lead enemy light cruiser, deploying one masking screen charge.
Assault scouts will each fire one AR and LB at the light cruiser the frigate has targeted.

Okay, here is the board after the Sathar have moved:

The UPF can now declare their defensive fire (1 LB per ship, including the station) After which the Sathar can post their offensive fire. Remember we are resolving them simultaneously.

Not from your current position but you could fire battery weapons as you came it before it was occulted by the planet. That is when it can fire at you as well.
