Battle of Prenglar

This thread will be for playing out the battle at Prenglar on Day 5. This will be our first big one.

Here is a link to a blank tactical map with numbered hexes.

The UPF should select the location of the planet, the hex the station will start in and the direction of the orbit around the planet (CW or CCW). They should then place all of the ships from Task Force Prenglar:
  • 5 Assault Scouts
  • 3 Frigates
  • 2 Destroyers
  • 3 Light Cruisers
  • 1 Battleship
  • 2 Minelayers
You can do that by drawing on the blank map and posting it or by posting the starting hex for each ship as well as its position and facing. Once the ships are placed you can place as many of the mines and seeker missiles from the minelayers and battleship as you would like in advance of the battle (up to 40 mines and 12 seekers) you may do so by posting the hexes you want them in in the Encrypted communication threads or by sending them to me my PM.

After I have the starting positions for any mines and seeker missiles, I post that the Sathar can place their ships.

Sathar agents in Port Loren are offering sizable cash rewards along with governorship of major cities in occupied worlds for a map of the minefields...

From the holds of the heavy cruisers, a squadron of top secret design mine sweepers is released...

That'll work just fine with the squadron of top-secret minesweeper destroyers I just deployed.

Still studying the board, will post and PM deployments tomorrow afternoon.

Okay, the UPF are all set up. The Sathar can now post their initial positions, speeds and headings. Remember, you have to be within 3 hexes of one of the short sides (columns 01-03 or 53-55) and all your ships have to enter from the same side. Here is the UPF setup:

Okay, here is the initial set up for this battle:
Image

It is the Sathar's move. In addition to the maps, I have prepared an Excel spreadsheet (unless people would prefer it in open office format) containing mini ship rosters for all the vessels involved in this battle. I will use this to keep track of weapons fired, damage, speed, heading, etc. The current version is blank in the speed area. I'll update that after your first move. Any blacked out box, the ship doesn't have. Damaged weapons/defenses will be highlighted in red and expended weapons will be marked off in orange. The letter designations in the spreadsheet correspond to the counter designations I'll use to represent your ships on the map.

You can declare your moves in one of two ways, either spelling out all the waypoints along your desired path (i.e. move to hex 5301, turn SW move 6 hexes ending in...) or just download the map, draw on it and upload the marked up version. The site allows for attachments so you don't need a separate hosting location for your graphics, just attach the new version to the post using the 'Upload Attachments' tab just below the imput box where you type in your text. (Note to self, maybe I should try that myself for these maps  )

My ships are one hex off of where they should be (5424). My lone heavy cruiser (5424) in the bunch of frigates accelerates to speed 29, moves forward 27, turns clockwise, and finishes off the last two hex movement at a range of 3 from the station (assuming I survive the mines)and head-on.
The frigates at hex 5424 move forward 13 hexes on the same route taken by the CH.

All cruisers accelerate by 2 to speed:17 and move forward, ending in hexes 3701 & 3801 respectively, facing west.

Carrier moves forward five, makes a left turn, and moves an additional five hexes ending in 4801 facing west. Launch all fighters in 4801 to begin movement next turn facing west w/starting speed:10

P.S. Does the UPF have fighters in Task Force Prenglar? My KH campaign book lists none, IIRC the detached duty fighters were declared in Zebulon.

Actually, the UPF has no fighters in this battle. Sorry Will. I didn't even notice that before.

@Art, you're right, I was off by one. I fixed it before I moved your ships.

Here is the updated positions along with the movement trails:

Image

The lead Sathar Heavy Cruiser hit mine fields at the two hexes marked by the red explosions. Art, do you want to fire ICM's at the incoming mines? Once Art decides on the ICM's I'll post the results of the mine attacks and everyone can declare their shots for this part of the round.

Edit: Fixed the bad link Art mentioned below.

Just verifying house rules: If a second ship comes into the mined hex on the turn AFTER I hit the mine, the mines will be gone, right?

GS on, launching 4 ICM's per hex of mines. I would rather get through the mines unscathed than to get hit and not have weapons or ICM's anyway....though it stinks using ICM's against mines (-5 only)

BTW, the latest map does not seem to be zooming to the larger size....seems to be a thumb only. Here is a correction for the rest of you guys.

Since there is no GS in this version of KH :D and the SS attracts mines, I'll enforce the rule stating you have to declare changes to your screen status on your movement turn. Not that it matters...

Despite launching all of it's ICM's at the incoming mines, the HC sustains damage from both mine patterns. The first mine field takes out the cruisers Disruptor Cannon and the second one takes out it Proton Battery.

Everyone can now declare fire for their ships.

Art, yes, those hexes are now no longer mined. And that is a KH canon rule, not a house one.

And I fixed the map link in my previous post.
