New look and feel for the site

I'm testing out a redesign of my website. You can check out the concept homepage at http://starfrontiers.info/test. The links don't go anywhere, they are just for display purposes. Anyway, take a look and let me know what you think. There will eventually be a variety of background images, I just happened to have that one handy :D . Eventually this theme will migrate through the whole site, including the forums.

Tweaked colors. Added a brushed metal background on the links on the left and changed the background image for good measure to try something different. Eventually the background images will rotate on load. By the way, the layout is designed for a 1024 pixel wide browser.

I still see the old site.
Are you uploading the new one?

The new site layout on the home page (http://www.starfrontiers.info) is now live. Check it out and let me know if there are any issues. I'll be adding more backgrounds over the next few weeks as I get the images created.

Awesome TerlObar!

Make sure you hit F5 in your browser if you don't see the new site!
The left menu white text is difficult to read, can you tone it down?
Maybe black?
Or eee, bbb or 333 grayish.

I'm online to help test if you need be.

'tis black now. That does look a little better. I had the white when the buttons were solid dark colors but the brushed metal is a lighter color so I think I'll go with the black.

Oh yeah, and if you haven't, please go to the Browser of Choise discussion and vote for the Browser you use. That will help me know what browsers to focus on when there are issues (like the space between the main menu buttons that doesn't show up in any other browser but IE :( ).

There are now 12 revolving images for backgrounds. Each time the site loads, it loads a random background. The backgrounds are all about 100 kB so they shouldn't take to long to load, even for those of you on dial-up. I have the AD & KH cover images plus images from all the modules. I just need to get the Zeb's Guide and the Referee's screen image done and I'll have all of them up.

I plan on eventually posting all the higher quality scans in a gallery but that's a project for another day. It's late and I'm going to bed :D.

Tom, love the new look, and the web archive is already proving to be a valuable addition, what with you preserving the ephemeris website.

As you've probably already noticed :D , I've migrated the new main page look and feel of the site into the forums. There are still stuff I'm planning on doing to tweak the forum appearance but since I got the navigation bar done, I wanted to roll that out. Expect to see a few more changes over the coming weeks and let me know what you think or suggestions for other changes.

I've turned off the scrolling of the menubar on the side as it was causing issues for a few people. Plus I realized that on a smaller screen, you'd never see the bottom menu items as they'd always be scrolled down below the bottom of the visible area. I'll revisit this later. I can always turn it back on if needed.
