Battle of K'tsa-Kar

Postby Terl Obar » Fri Jan 02, 2009 8:40 pm

This thread will be for playing out the battle at K'tsa-Kar on day 4.

Here is a link to a blank tactical map with numbered hexes.

The UPF should select the location of the planet, the hex the station will start in and the direction of the orbit around the planet (CW or CCW). After that the Sathar can place their ships.

The planet goes in hex 0125 and the station in hex 0225.

The station orbits CW.

Will, that doesn't work as the station would rotate off the map. Also, the Sathar can start in either of the short edges of the map. Are you sure you want the planet on the edge of the board?

Note: When I post the battle thumbnails, they will be without the hex grid. Clicking on the thumbnail will give the full map with the grid.

UPF are set up, now it is the Sathar turn. Your ships can enter from either of the two short sides but they must all come in on the same side. They can be placed on the board anywhere within 3 hexes of the map edge. I'll need position and speed of each ship (or group of ships). There can be no more than a 10 hex/turn spread in the speed of your ships. The ships present are:

3 Assault Carriers
18 Fighters
3 Light Cruisers
8 Destroyers

Our cruisers are stacked in hex 5121 facing west. The destroyers stacked in groups of four in 5020 and 5022 also facing west, and the carriers stacked in 5321 facing west. All with a start speed of ten.

Here's the starting map. Normally, I'd make the Sathar back up a couple hexes to the edge but since this is a small battle, we'll let it slip this time :D .

The Sathar ships are all moving at speed 10. The Sathar can now post their initial move. I'll try to post the ship stat sheets later tonight. (I'm in Long Beach at the AAS meeting until Thursday.)

All craft move forward, decelerating to 8. The carriers will make a face change to NW, the rest still facing west.

Nope. We're simply gonna obliterate the station LOL

I'll go ahead and post our next move (UPF move is simply going to be a one hex station move):

Carriers continue at speed:8 and makes a left face change (to SW), remaining craft continue forward decelrating to 6.

In dreams:Ten thousand battleships emerge from the Void inside the Sathar lines, and they will fire all their weapons at once. Being so tightly packed the Sathar ships are instantly annhilated.

Meanwhile, in the real world, the station moves one hex.

Okay, sorry about the delay. It's been a little crazy and I didn't have as much free time at my conference as I expected. I went ahead and moved the Sathar for both of their posted moves. The only modification is that the Assault carriers could only turn back to facing W (not SW) at the end of turn two as they only have 1 MR. Here is where we stand

Image

I left ghost images of where the Sathar were at the end of round 1. The Sathar have moved. No defensive fire is possible from the station but the Sathar LC can fire their Proton Batteries at the station at maximum range (12) if they so desire.

FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :ugeek:
Questions: What is the status of defenses on the station? Either there is a masking screen and an electron screen up, or we should be able to target it with more than PB's right? Are we using the civillian or military rate for targeting chance?
If the Light Cruisers can fire their p-beams at range twelve right now, and I assume we are MPO, why can't the Destroyers (range 11 and 12) also fire their Laser Cannons and Beam Batteries? There might be some mis-communication here, but I am assuming that you are abbreviating Light Cruisers (CL) with the letters LC (which is the abbreviation for Laser Cannon) and you are not referring to Laser Cannons at all. Ja?

Edit: Checking stats... we are up against an MS, which may or not have been deployed, and an RH. Assuming the civilian rate for targeting, Lasers are out, but we should be able to hit with EB's and PB's, some at 5%and some at 10%. Yes or no?

Yeah that was light cruisers. The proton batteries are the only things in range. They have a max range of 12. Laser Cannons have a max range of 10 and the upper set of destroyers are 11 hexes from the station. I just notices a contradiction in the rules. On the chart on the back cover it gives the range for the electron batteries as 10, but in the text inside it gives 12. I'm going to go with the text and declare that EB have a range of 12 so all the ships can fire their EB and/or PB. I will resolve the rolls accordingly. Base chance to hit is 60% - 5%/hex which means at this range you basically have a 5% chance to hit (but that is 16 5% chances).

The station has no defenses up at this time as none have been declared.

The Sathar vessels open fire at extreme range with their proton and electron batteries. Beams lance out reaching toward the station. Most miss, but an electron battery from one of the destroyers and a proton battery from one of the light cruisers connect with the station. Both rip into the stations hull doing 8 and 9 points of damage respectively.

My bad on the carrier facing, west is actually what I wanted in the first place.

Unless it's too late to declare, cruisers activate stasis screens. Any return/defensive fire will be utilizing same weapons systems (EB & PB).

If the assault carriers are in range, the station fires at the center one with its LB.

If not...well....

Nope, none of the Sathar ships are in range of the station this round. During the UPF movement phase in round 2, the station continues in its orbit around the planet. It is now a distance of 11 hexes from the Sathar destroyers and light cruisers and 19 hexes from the assault carriers. The cruisers have their Stasis Screens activated.

Current positions:
Image

I assume the Sathar ships take their defensive fire for this part of the round. The electron and proton batteries are unleashed but with minimal effect. One of the destroyers in the stack in hex 3622 (the bottom one) manages to connect with it's electron battery doing 5 more hull points of damage to the station. The station now has 58 of its original 80 HP remaining.

It is now the Sathar's move on round three.
