IC: Panos Geordi was patiently listening to a detective under his command. The detective was, rather stridently, insisting that Albra Walkins should be brought in for questioning. He let the detective run out all his steam before say, "No, that will tip our hand. We know that there are big fish involved and she may just lead us to them. For now we just watch her."

Panos paused seeing Ajax at the conference room door.
"Excuse me a moment," he said to the detective, "Ajax I thought you'd have cleared your desk by now, don't you report to the Pelican tomarrow?"

In all likelihood most of the crew were already on Clarrion Station. Ajax had already cleared his desk but couldn't help himself and was pulling more time in the analysis lab.
"Ah sir I just came from the lab, you need to see this."
Panos took the file computer and scanned the data then his face went white, "How old is this?"

"Twenty minutes."
"My God! They're planning to wipe out the Leonine Dynasty! I need a direct com to the palace now!We have direct evidence of 8 assassination attempts in the works and very little time to respond. I'm announcing a planet wide alert on my authority as the Queens Special Investigator. Ajax, here's what I'm going to need from you...."

ON Clarion Station:
Alyssa planned to report for duty on the Pelican bright and early in the morning but not being tired she wandered down to the shipyard at the Hub to look over the old bird. The observation gallery had one occupant but she went to the far side putting distance between her and the other being. Odd, she thought, the profile of the ship was all wrong what had they done during this refit? She had assumed the unscheduled refit was because the Pelican had been shot up so badly by the pirates but what she saw here was radical, to her trained eye, changes in the hull.

The woman 8m away looked at her and commented, "Beautiful isn't it?"
"What's beaut..." Lyssa started to ask before seeing a Streel corporate logo on the woman's jumpsuit.
Instead she finished, "What are you doing here?"

IC:
"Oh, I'm sorry, I'm Georgia Kirros, I'm the manufacturers rep for this refit. Yeah, I know the Streel logo raises a few eyebrows."
She had advanced toward Alyssa and extended her hand but something about Alyssa made her stop half way and drop her hand.

"Ohh-Kay," she said in an exaggerated way, "Sorry to have disturbed you."
Georgia was turning to leave when Alyssa said, "Wait, I'm sorry, I was just caught by surprise there. What were you referring to as beautiful?"

Georgia smiled and responded, "The armor of course. That my engineering specialty, advanced composites and armor plating. The crew of that ship did something to please somebody on the EVP level at the company. This is experimental stuff not even on the market and Pelican gets to field test it. The company's even picking up the cost of the refit. I believe you could call this a thank you to the crew by someone well placed in the company."

Alyssa was thinking about her response to that news when her chronocom chirped an alert message.
All over Clarion and the space station similar alerts where chirping at other Royal Marines.
Instead Alyssa simply said, "Excuse me."

OOC: The GM has been amused and entertained: as promised 1 bonus EXP point for Savrax, Mantin, Tanar, Alyssa, and Grelude

OOC: This is before she replies:

"What the vog are you doing here, Streelie?!" Lyssa snaps, emotions still raw from being on Ivens' show and her confrontation with the cretin Buzz Antrim.

She turns away from her, looking instead at the Pelican; she wandered the streets of the capital alone, hoping some GoC thug would take advantage of that and try taking her on, especially with the holidays on and people jamming the streets and shops. Disappointed in that, she instead made her way to Sinclair(Parliament)House in the city's center, watching the blaze of lights strung along the walls and from the dome for Winterfest, til that caused her to think about how much she hated Winterfest, the commercialism, the hypocrisy, the idiot worshippers of the One True God hijacking the holiday to serve their own demented agenda, and how much power they still had in spite of all the Clarionites who'd fought and died defending a bankrupt Federation.

So, she'd come here, unable to sleep, and sick of wandering the streets of Valentina, she'd gone up the well to Clarion Station, to waste a few hours looking at the Pelican, before reporting back aboard.

She doesn't look like a tender anymore, or a freighter, she remarks to herself, taking in all the changes to weapons fit, powerplants, and so on.

She looks almost like a torp frigate, she adds, as the Streel bitch interrupts her musing with,"you decide to go deaf all of a sudden. I said, we're all on the same side."

"I have some Spacefleet bitch who keeps telling me the same thing," Lyssa finally replies to the Streelie. "The more I hear it anymore, the less I'm convinced."

"So," she asks,"are you going to tell what the vog you're doing here bothering me, or will you just simply go the Hells away?"
"So, no more running. I aim to misbehave."

Lyssa clears the Hub and snaps into her chronocom. "Blue on line, go!" even as she's running towards the Hind.

Least those damn Streelies won't vog her up with useless geegaws, she thinks bitterly, as she keeps running.

IC: Despite the fact that it's never really night on a space station many of the crew had pulled assignments dirt side the past month and were acclimated to daily routine of Clarrion. The conference room drink dispenser was being hit a little hard for hot stimulants suggesting that some had been expecting rack time. Not every one had made it to the briefing when the videocom came to life.

Captain Ellilana Zyrova was on split screen conference with Ajax. It appeared that the Captain was at the palace.
"This a case X-ray alert and not a drill."

Those words sent a chill through the room as case X-ray meant a direct threat to the Crown. The only other alert on that level of seriousness was a case Zulu which meant "Invasion Imminent". Neither of which were ever sent during a drill which made the captain's warning redundant.

She continued, "There is a plot to decapitate the monarchy with simultaneous assassinations TONIGHT. This is where we come in, the Princess Avana Ellilana Leonine has been vacationing at Glacier Bay ski resort 2k from Lapin on the polar ice for over a month now and she's on the list of targets. You will take the "Golden Hind" and set down at Perry Field to meet with her and her guards. Once you have the princess you are to lift immediately and deliver her and her guards to the Royal Yacht then fly cover for the yacht till further notice. Ajax will be your liaison with palace security, he has coordinates and com numbers for the Princess and the Lt. G'Mautric of the Royal Guard as well as intel on the GOC cells believed to be operating out of Lapin."

"I will be enroute to the Pelican to expedite the yard dogs clearing her for space duty. You will succeed at this at all cost."

The captain signed off leaving Ajax on the videocom to answer any questions.

"Upload the coordinates and com numbers to my chronocom," Lyssa tells the young Syrrano, hastily grabbing a laser rifle and stuffing her pouches with 20 SEU clips.

"OCRAS team, grab what you need and head for the Hind, now, you've five minutes, that's five-zero mikes, before I seal locks!"

"That goes for everyone else too."

She says this, as she bolts for the Hind, heating up the atomics and charging the lasers the instant she's at the piloting station.

"Four minutes thirty!" she shouts over comms. "C'mon people, move it!"

Over general comms, she hears the Lord Commander's voice announcing she is declaring martial law, as required under case X-ray. Even though she is almost certainly on the target list, she further announces that she will be where the Guards can get to her, and that she would be ready for them.

OOC: She has her standard gear, in addition to a round dozen 20 SEU clips and a laser rifle.

Niss and Grelude were jsut about to board the shuttlecraft to Clarion's surface when the alert came over the chronocom.

"Of all the fraggin' styfe!" Grelude curses out loud. Even Niss feels a sense of disappointment, although no non-vruskan would be capable of detecting it. Grelude nods, "We'll have to take this putt another day. Let's go see what the top brass has in store for us."

The odd duo talks about hover riding along the way, until their paths separate (unless Niss is summoned as well, in which case the conversation lasts for the entire trip).
____________________________________________

Grelude will select a laser rifle, an albedo screen, a trio of tanglers, IR goggles, a power backpack for the rifle, a beltpack for the screen, five spare powerclips and a bandolier for the rifle, 500g (10 charges) of D-19 and 250g (5 charges) of D-20, five VT detonators, and a 50m section of the rope if it can be separated from the coil.

From his personal goods he will take the combat harness (inc. his personal power beltpack for two total), his gas mask, and his usual assortment of the Laser Pistol, sonic sword, electric sword, StunStick (all four w/ 20SEU PowerClips loaded), flashlight, and the standard SEP goods

Unless my SF encumbrance memory is off, that should be about 32kg total (Grelude can carry 33)

"Hmm," Lyssa asks Jax over encrypted comms, as she's heating up the atomics,"Jax, I'm reasonably sure Clarion's full of people who impersonate the royals for a living. Maybe if we could use their services to decoy the Guards thugs....."

Ajax responded,
"Sir, I'm sure that's true but right now there isn't time to put any of them in place. I have an update from palace security they heard back from the the princess' personal security detachment that she's was out grav skiing, they have her now and are in route to Perry Landing field. They should meet you there 20 minutes after you land.

"Also I took the liberty of checking the weather service as I assumed you'd want to do a standard atmospheric landing and save the atomic fuel for immediate liftoff. Currently winds are 15 kph out of the north but a storm brewing and there's an 80% likelihood of blizzard conditions within two hours from now. I checked for maps, at present this weather sat image I marked with icons to indicate notable features is the best I have available. I should also warn you that Perry Field is the only locale that's considered safe to land a Hull rating 2 shuttle. Good hunting, sir."

OOC: The princess has been staying at the Glacier Bay Resort.

@ Grelude: Niss is going with you (she's the only other character with med skills besides Ajax)

If there is a reasonable piece of equipment not on the armory list I'll probably rule in your favor to have it.

"Just a thought anyway," Lyssa says, as she burns engine out of Clarion Station and heads straight down towards Perry Field at max burn.

Over comms, she says:

"If any of you had the misfortune to have eaten before we took off, Void bags are conveniently located throughout the ship, and thank you for flying with White Light Spacelines, where you'll be sure to see the white light at the end of your journey."

"Jax, tell Her Highness to be at the field, packed and ready to go," she adds, as she sees the lights of the field and the resort in the gathering storm. "We've two hours to get her the hell offworld, and if she isn't there in an hour, fifty-nine, she'll just have to take her chances."

Compensating for atmospheric conditions(she's flown through Volturnan sandstorms before, after all), she adds,"Alpha Team, the instant we're down, hit the ground eyes open and weapons hot; Mister Savrax, stand ready by the pod lasers in case we have to barbecue some terrorists for brunch."

"Also," she says," start scanning for anything which doesn't look right. We might get lucky and only be a bit too late for the festivities."

GM EDIT: Just a point: the pod lasers are a forward fire only weapon (no turret) though you should man them as a point of SOP as it its an unkown situation you're heading into and you never know....
So far Grelude and Niss found their way onboard; waiting to see who else was on Clarion station and writes a post picking up their equipment and boards the "Hind" in the five minutes blast off window.

OOC: The GM smacks his head as the fact that we have a major holiday this week hits him.
I'm sure there's some that don't do much celebrating of this holiday but out of courtesy for those who do I wont be doing any turn advances Till Thursday after the holiday.

However, I will be checking in and doing some book keeping (adding the bonus exp point to character sheets and checking to make sure equipment purchases are added as well. I will also try to answer questions if people have them or respond to post for people getting caught up.

Hope you have a safe and fun time however you choose to celebrate the holiday or not.

But I offer a virtual toast to you all, not sure what kind of wine I have but I am sure its dry and red. Cheers.

Better make that the Thursday after the Thursday after that Thursday...in addition to Christmas and New Years, we at the Shack homestead also observe Cuddle Up day on January 6th.

Yes, it's really a real holiday, and a darned good reason not to go to work at that:

Savrax settles on a nice Force Ax to purchase when the merchant, Rith baits him over to look at his “special” selection of Sonic Swords. Sav realizes that he is simply wanting the force ax and a sonic sword to play around with to see which one he would prefer to incorporate into his martial arts, but he cannot help to feel compelled to own such a finely crafted weapon. While expending a considerable amount of time and even more emotional energy, Sav is able to talk Rith down to 610 creds for a masterful sonic sword. Though most, if not all would see it as Rith finally talked Sav up to 610 creds. This is exactly why Sav had no intentions of sharing the purchase cost and hoped Tanar hadn’t paid too much attention to the transaction. He was really just glad his mother would never find out. She always hounded him about wasting money on “ridiculous” things.

As he is receiving his purchased items, both his and Tanar’s comm units chime an invitation to the Royal Investigators Office. Sav gives the barest of smiles and a slightly elevated brow by which he intended to communicate his eagerness and anticipated satisfaction to learn of the days earlier mysterious events. It of course never occurred to him that it may have indicated bad tidings regarding them blundering into an official investigation.

After making their way to the Office, they were met by Ajax.

Ajax apologizes for all the cryptic cloak and dagger earlier but they had wandered into the middle of stake out and were likely to spook the suspected GOC operative who had been waiting at that cafe.

“No need to apologize. It was Tanar and I who are sorry. (hoping that the Yazirian would not be offended by Sav taking the liberty of stating that he had done anything that should be apologized for.) I hope we didn’t muddle things up for you.”

Savrax listens intently to Mr. Geordi and feels a bit in awe of being brought in on such a matter.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter and I'm sorry to inform you that this matter and what you've learned today is, for now classified.

“I am pleased to serve in whatever capacity that I may, sir.” With a new sense of inadequacy, Savrax accepts the high-tech card and secures it upon himself and assures Mr. Geordi that he will indeed pass any information to him either directly or through Ajax. He leaves the office with his head in a bit of a whirl. Life just doesn’t get any better the thought. “Not only do I get to be a hero, serving as a Royal Marine, but I get to be a spy too. At this rate, I may never have to grow up!”

As he walks out of the office structure, he checks the time and turns to head for the med clinic with a laugh in his heart.

OOC: Sorry, playing catch up again. I have always (as a DM) enjoyed critical hit/misses tables. As a master crafted weapon/equipment, I would see it as being less prone or even impervious to particular critical miss results. Usually involving damage to the device or failure to function. Depending on the item, aspects of function could be tweaked. For instance, the range of a weapon or items effect could be improved by a small percent. However, I see this really as just being RP and wouldn’t worry about any real improvement on an item. It really just translates to his confidence in his equipment.

Savrax had just returned to his quarters on Clarion Station after returning from the surface. He was probing the base of his skull absently noting it was a bit tender, but marveling that it in all other ways seemed perfectly normal. That is when the alert came in. After the announcement, he scrambled to get his ready bag and snatch up his new melee weapons. Quickly grabing and securing his stores from the armory, he straps in and redies himself at this station. Upon Alyssa’s mention of Void bags, he closes his eyes for a brief second as the memory of their ORCAS training comes to mind.

Mister Savrax, stand ready by the pod lasers in case we have to barbecue some terrorists for brunch."

“Aye, Aye.” He fiddles with securing his sonic sword and his force ax in the most prudent of areas about himself. He has to decide which one of the two would be his first choice and he goes with the sonic sword, placing it at a more accessible point than the force ax. That done, he quickly diverts his attention back to the screens to see if he can detect any unauthorized or suspicious crafts or vehicles in the area. If that turns up nothing, he will look ascertain a visual of people on the ground around or heading toward the location of the princess.

OOC: Funny you mentioned master crafted items as I was just working on an article with something like that in it....let me get back to you on that but in your player sheet thread. 2nd thought: even if the master craft status was mostly cosmetic and story element I would still take it into account in a really tight situation where your life could hang on the roll of a single die I very possibly would rule that since the weapon is so well balance you get the initiative or an extra % for one attack. and I would agree that a master crafted weapon would immune to suffering damage from a critical failure roll unless you had 3 critical failure rolls in one encounter (nothing is indestructable)
A second year delivery driver who still could not back up his van told me, "Its Not that I Cant back it up a van its that I Dont want to." Funny I use to say the same about sex in high School.
